In Memory of Lou Johnson

WoodyFest is saddened by the passing on Nov. 8, 2016 of Lou Johnson - owner of Lou's Rocky Road Tavern in Okemah, OK. Lou's has been an important part of WoodyFest since the beginning - hosting many open mics as well as the annual Mary Jo's Pancake Breakfast. Our sincere condolences to Lou's many friends and family.

The family has stated that they would be pleased if those wanting to donate in Lou’s memory would make a donation to WoodyFest. The festival was near and dear to Lou. Donations can be made via PayPal on our Friends Of The Festival Page. If donating via PayPal please write “In Memory of Lou Johnson” where it says Add Special Instructions to the Seller so that we can send an acknowledgment to the family.

Details regarding services for Lou can be found on the Parks Brothers Funeral Home website.

GOOD NEWS FROM WOODYFEST AND JOEL RAFAEL!

The Woody Guthrie Folk Festival is pleased to announce that good friend and long-time supporter, Joel Rafael, has generously and graciously offered to donate the purchase price of his two CDs of Woody Guthrie songs to WoodyFest! Copies of both “Woodeye” and “Woodyboye” are now available at these four locations in Okemah, Oklahoma:

The Hen House (613 W. Broadway)
Lou’s Rocky Road Tavern (118 S. 2nd St.)
Okemah Coffee Co. (501 S. Woody Guthrie St.)
Okemah News Leader (115 W. Broadway)

CDs can also be purchased on the Joel Rafael website. No collection of Woody songs would be complete without Joel's CDs!

Joel says: "Recording these collections of Woody Guthrie songs was a labor of love and now I'm offering them to you for $10 each with the entire purchase price going to the Woody Guthrie Festival. It is my hope that you will support the Woody Guthrie Festival and enjoy these songs for many years to come."

WoodyFest would like to thank Joel for his continuing support – having performed at every festival since the 1st Annual festival in 1998. Joel’s generosity and support will help keep the festival alive and thriving as we approach our 20th anniversary in 2017! And another terrific heads-up! Joel will be performing a fundraiser concert for WoodyFest at the Blue Door in OKC on April 29! More details soon!
