Michael McCarty began playing drums in 1963 with a surf band. Through the late ’60s and early ’70s he played with the psychedelic / folk rock, Holy Modal Rounders. He played on The Rounder’s 5th album, “Good Taste is Timeless” which included the Dr. Demento hit “Boobs A Lot.” After the Rounders, he continued working with Folk / Red Dirt / Americana songwriters including Roger Tillison, Phil Sampson, Kevin Welch, Jim Pulte, John Hadley, and Ray Wylie Hubbard. He also played and recorded with Country Gazette, featuring Alan Munde and Roland White. In addition to the Sunday Flyers, McCarty plays with Terry “Buffalo” Ware’s instrumental band The Shambles, and enjoys being a member of the Woody Guthrie Festival house band every summer in Okemah, Oklahoma.
