Western folk singer-songwriter Nellie Clay was born in Oklahoma, lived in Alaska for a decade, called Nashville home for several years and landed back in Oklahoma. Nellie recorded her most recent EP Oh America in Chicago, IL to work with friend and producer Joe Shadid, who also sings and plays on the record. In her own words, this project is “mostly about love, compassion and strength, no regrets and at least one drunk.”
Oh America follows up an earlier EP titled We Got Songs to Sing, which includes a Woody Guthrie cover, and two full length records, Born Too Late and Never Did What I Shoulda Done. Like many artists, Clay spent the pandemic writing and creating and is recording new music this summer. Nellie is writing her first book, reviving her love of painting and recently recorded several episodes of a songwriter showcase for PBS.
